The Kansas City Chiefs are in Detroit this weekend to play the Lions.   A few years ago Chiefs quarterback,  Patrick Mahomes was a Detroit Tigers draft pick.

According to the story from the Detroit News,  Mahomes was drafted by the Tigers in the 37th round of the 2014 draft.  He was a pitcher and was a part of the Tigers draft class that included outfielder Derek Hill, pitcher Spencer Turnbull and catcher Grayson Greiner.

Mahomes was a star pitcher in high school and was drafted even though he was going to play football at Texas Tech.  Mahomes said he was going to play football but the Tigers took him to give him an option if football didn't work out for him.

After his MVP season last year and one of the favorites for this year, it turned out to be a good choice for Mahomes to play football.

Mahomes and the Chiefs will take on the Lions in Detroit on Sunday.  The game will be televised on Fox at 1 p.m.
