Major League Soccer is getting ready to announce two new expansion teams and one of those could be Detroit.

According to M-Live, Detroit has been named 1 of 4 finalist to land a Major League Soccer expansion team.    Detroit along with Nashville, Sacramento and Cincinnati are the four finalist.   Teams will be awarded to two of those four cities.

Dan Gilbert and Tom Gores have led the group for Detroit, who along with the groups from the other cities, will make presentations to the league December 6th.

The league will decide mid month on the two new teams, which should be announced by the end of the year.

If Detroit lands a team they would play their games at Ford Field, which would have to be made soccer friendly.

If Detroit misses out, MLS has said they will announce a couple more expansion teams at a later date.

Detroit would have 5 major pro sports all within the Downtown area if they are awarded a team.
