Dealing with a flood is a major catastrophe and something that should always be considered as a state of emergency situation. A few years back when Kalamazoo saw flooding on Riverview Drive, and throughout the downtown area, there were many people who were trapped and had to abandon their personal belongings to get to safety.

That’s exactly what happened in Detroit recently as one of their neighborhoods was transformed into a frozen river after a water main break. Mixed with the subzero temperatures, the entire neighborhood was completely flooded with water and some of the residents near Joy Road in the Evergreen neighborhood have been trapped inside.

A Detroit Water Sewage Department spokesperson released a statement on the situation to Metro Detroit News about the severity of the issue:

We have DWSD and DPW cruise headed to Vaughan and Constance to get ice and water off the street, then we’ll make the repair that caused the issue. We will also help get vehicles moved that may be stuck. At this time, we are not certain of the cause and apologize to the residents for the dangerous flooding, and ask that the public please avoid this area until we make it safe to drive through.

This is not the kind of thing you want to be dealing with when it is snowing, and you have zero-degree temperatures to start the week. The best option for these residents is to hunker down and reach out to authorities if they need assistance. It's just too bad this had to happen during winter.

West Michigan Ice Storm Brings Beauty & Carnage To Kalamazoo

The first thing I witnessed this morning was a loud "CRACK" then turning my head to see a tree limb snap off and fall to the ground. It gets so cold and heavy once the ice absorbs into the wood that the limbs just can't take the pressure from the weight and will snap
