When feeding a whole family on a budget, nothing beats a bucket of chicken, and the super secret ghost restaurant to hit Kalamazoo knows a thing or two about roasting up some farm bird. In fact, they're called Farm Bird!

*Record scratch*

You want me to go back to that bit about "ghost restaurant", don't you? And here I thought I as going to be able to gloss right over that.

A ghost restaurant is a food business that operates out of an already existing, non-competing restaurant. It's not as strange as it sounds. Follow me. Let's say you make some kickass tacos, but you don't have the capital to open a restaurant or food truck of your own. Not yet. You find a pizza place that will allow you to use their commercial kitchen for a small fee so you can start a take-out and delivery based business through their storefront. Pizza place gets a little extra money without losing business, and you get to dip your foot in to the restaurant world. It's a culinary win-win. So. Let's get back to chicken, shall we?

Farm Bird, which operates out of Lake Burger on West Main, got popping right when COVID lockdowns started. That hasn't stopped them from serving up a great chicken and fantastic traditional sides including smoked mac and cheese and green bean casserole. Their menu has enough options for the individual or the whole family. Juicy, crunchy, flavorful. It just might be one of the best kept secrets in town. I personally saw two very picky eaters (an 8-year-old and a 5-year-old) inhale three pieces each. If that's not a resounding vote of approval, I don't know what is.

Available for pick up or delivery through Grub Hub, Farm Bird can be found in the Lake Burger on West Main at 4404 West Main Street in Kalamazoo. Check out both Lake Burger and Farm Bird's menus here.
