Every time you turn around, it’s almost like things are getting more and more expensive. Being alive is getting to be a little bit stressful, considering how pricey everything is, from the price of rent, to the price of health insurance, and now we have to worry about more Increases to our monthly energy costs.

Recently, Consumers Energy has announced that in an effort to provide more reliable energy, we’re going to have to pay a little bit more when our bill comes around. Electric rates have already gone up, and now there is going to be a $153 million revenue increase here in Michigan.

That’ll take place on Friday, and most of the money will be used to clear trees and brush, which are the main reason for downed power lines, which can lead to energy loss

Trisha Bloembergen of Consumers Energy's media relations told Channel 3 that the price hike was necessary if Consumers wanted to keep energy outages at a low and keep the prices more consistent:

So by investing in our grid through these increases, we are hoping to save customers money in the long term. To ensure that no customer has no power out for more than 24 hours, and that there's not a single instance where more than 100,000 customers are impacted

Just exactly how much our bills will go up by is up in the air, and we will have to keep track of how much energy we used and what rates were when comparing previous bills to the ones reflective of the price hike.

Michigan Mansion Built in 1916 by Consumers Energy Founder

In 1886, two brothers were tasked with providing electric lighting in downtown Jackson, Michigan. William A. and James B. Foote would make their mark in the town, with William's wife later founding Foote Hospital (now Henry Ford Health). In 1916, James had a home built for himself and his family at 735 W Washington Avenue. Here's a look at what that home looks like over 100 years later courtesy of The Brokerage House
