New Round of Government Layoffs Could Lead To Many Deaths In Michigan
Normally, when it comes to the national weather service and the national oceanic and atmospheric administration, they tend to stay away from politics and focus on what is important, keeping the public informed about dangerous weather patterns and potential deadly storms that are around the horizon.
But recently, they haven’t had a choice because the next round of government layoffs on the federal level just got handed down to the NOAA and the NWS, which saw 900 people get laid off. This is a massive blow to the community, and recently, Michigan Storm Chasers' official Facebook page released a statement about the firings.

Even though they tend to stay away from politics, they are now being affected by it and felt it was necessary to let the public know that if they have issues with the national weather service, they’re going to have more problems ahead, as the local weatherman and women get their weather models from the NOAA.
NWS in Alaska has already announced that radiosnode balloon launches have been suspended, which is the process of important data collection to input into models. Many more offices may follow suit. This is a recipe for disaster.
They shared their sentiments and thoughts online in the hopes that the community will come together and invoice their worries to the government.
The point we’re trying to make is that by firing and cutting budgets under NOAA, it not only affects those personally, but has serious potential to disrupt public safety and communications when it comes to hazardous weather. We urge everyone to contact your local government representative to voice your support of NWS/NOAA.
This could mean that critically timed warnings that could save many lives may be impacted because of the shortage of staff.
