Michigan City Is Fighting To Save Their Hollywood Mrkt. From Being Replaced By Meijer
Growing up in Rochester Hills since 1989 there were some staple businesses in the city during a time when it was at the infancy stage of growing to what it is now, a giant condo complex/shopping mall. But back in the early 90s, Rochester was growing rapidly and you had your, major landmarks. You had the Meijer on Auburn Road, the Target on Rochester Road, and through downtown, you had the Hollywood Market that was on the corner of Rochester and Teinken.
Now it seems that Meijer may be replacing the Hollywood market, but not if the people of Rochester have something to say about it. News recently broke out that after the lease was not renewed, Meijer would most likely be replacing the Hollywood Market, which was recently given the OK by the city.
People who are regulars at Hollywood Market think it is unnecessary for Meijer to replace it, considering that 4 miles away is the Auburn Road location, and there is also another location in Lake Orion only 3 miles away.
People are trying to rally the troops so to speak and make a petition to the city to keep Meijer from moving in, unfortunately, that may not get them far.
The landlord who owns the building center will not be renewing the lease, so legally there isn’t a whole lot they can do. This may be a situation where people will just have to accept The changing times and shop there while they can. You hate to see these long-lasting staple businesses go, but that's the capitalist world we live in.
