Shwe Mandalay Is Now Open In Battle Creek [PHOTOS]
Last October Amanda Sunthang and Jennifer Cole won Battle Creek's Startup Fest, and would be bringing Burmese cuisine to Battle Creek.
In June, we learned that they were planning on a summer 2018 opening for Shwe Mandalay. And now, as of Tuesday, August 21, they are open for business
We went down on their second day to sample what they had on offer. Taking a look at the building, they have done wonders in renovating the place and making it feel fresh and unique, with art and colors representing the culture of Myanmar (formerly known as Burma).
We first pored over the menu for quite a while, as there were many different choices, only a couple of which we were familiar with.
For appetizers, we ordered Samosas (little pastries filled with meat, vegetables, spices, and potatoes) and Fried Sweet Corn, both of which came with a side of slightly-spicy sauce that was quite good. I was particularly in love with the Samosas!
Our entrees we sampled were traditional as well including the Chicken Curry and Mo Hin Ga, described on the menu as a rice noodle dish with fish sauce, that is the national dish of Myanmar.
All of this food was incredibly good.
Shwe Mandalay is located at 451 W. Michigan Ave in Battle Creek, inside the former Tony's Chop Suey. They are currently open for lunch from 11am to 2pm Tuesday to Sunday. They plan on offering dinner hours sometime in September, and there are also plans in the works to offer some type of buffet service.
