The Big Spring Is Another Gem Of The Upper Peninsula
Pictured Rocks and Tahquamenon Falls are a must in the U.P. If you are making the trip to the Upper Peninsula you must also add Kitch-Iti-Kipi to your trip.
Kitch-Iti-Kipi (The Big Spring) is the largest natural freshwater spring in Michigan. This is some of the clearest water I have ever seen in our state. It is located just outside of Manistique in Palms Book State Park.
To get a closer view of the spring, there is a self operated raft with a viewing window were you can see the bottom of the spring. Lots of different types of trout populate the spring.
The raft is connected to a cable that goes out over the backside of spring before coming back to the dock. As you go across the water, you can see not only all the fish, but the very bottom of the water it is that clear.
It is one of those scenic locations that is worth stopping to check out as you explore the other must see areas of the U.P.
