An emergency meeting was called at Wyandotte Public Schools after a school board member made a racist comment on Facebook, which led to her resignation from her position.

We are living in a world now where people are becoming very comfortable with saying terrible things and not worrying about any consequences. So when Cindy Kinney decided to comment on a racist, AI-generated ragebait Facebook post, she most likely wasn’t thinking about the fact that she is a public figure within the school; in fact, she was a Wyandotte Public School Board trustee and former school board President.

Fox 2 has the rundown of what happened:

On Tuesday, Wyandotte School Board Trustee Cindy Kinney commented on a Facebook post that said, "dogs or Muslims…you can only keep one." Kinney would then reply, ‘dogs.’ The Wyandotte School Board held an emergency meeting, where they denounced the anti-Muslim post and called for Kinney to step down. She served on the school board for 12 years.

On Tuesday night, during a board meeting, Kinney was not in attendance because she apparently had to go on vacation, but she did offer a statement.

It was never my intention to offend, marginalize or diminish anyone in our community. I understand why many were upset, and I am truly sorry. I also want to address that I’m currently on a previously planned vacation. This trip was scheduled well in advance, and I am not avoiding or running away from this issue.

These kinds of statements seem to fall on deaf ears, given the tastelessness of the Facebook post. But now she can enjoy an extended vacation. There is absolutely no reason to react or comment to ragebait Facebook posts, such as this, or anything else that marginalizes, diminishes, and is offensive towards an entire community.
