Michigan Reddit Pages Could Soon Be Locked Behind A Pay Wall, So What Does That Mean?
I always find it funny that publications or news organizations that claim to be focused on the local community will often lock certain stories behind a pay wall. What does that mean exactly? It means that unless you pay them money, you won’t be able to read the story that they are writing about.
The Reddit co-founder said the company would begin testing AI-powered search results later this year [and] that search could one day be a significant source of advertising revenue for the company.
He then continued to talk about how they would paywall Reddit as well to raise revenue:
I think the existing, altruistic, free version of Reddit will continue to exist and grow and thrive just the way it has. But now we will unlock the door for new use cases, new types of subreddits that can be built that may have exclusive content or private areas, things of that nature.
It could then be speculated that over time, existing Reddit pages could get the paywall as well. Would this be enough for you to leave it permanently?
