Green Couch Games – Michigan Roots and Epic Replay Value
It's a great time to be a gamer. I'm not talking about video games, here, I'm talking about card/board/tile games played around a dining room table teeming with bowls of Doritos and an impressive selection of 2 liters. Role playing and laughing with other game enthusiasts - in person, mind you - is never time wasted. So many great games are coming out these days for all levels and ages, and a Grand Rapids based gaming company, Green Couch Games, is helping Michigan designers and artists get a seat at the table. It warms the very cockles of my heart.
Set to release their 13th game, this five-year-old company was founded by Flint-born Jason Kotarski. After hanging up his rockstar persona, and retiring from the many punk bands he performed with, Kotarski found his dance card sorely lacking. Once band practice and weekend gigs weren't dominating his calendar, he turned his attention to Settlers of Catan, and the rest is gaming history. Hobby quickly gave way to contribution, contribution gave way to obsession, and obsession led Kotarski to launch Green Couch Games in Grand Rapids, where he now lives with his family. Green Couch doesn't just publish other designer's concepts. Kotarski himself has put his creative stamp on three titles Filler, Into the Black Forest, and Fidelitas.
A Michigan game company featuring Michigan designers and artists. Truly something to celebrate and support.
